How crypto exchanges are regulated in Singapore

MAS licenses exchanges in Singapore under the Payment Services Act, and it runs one of the most selective regimes anywhere: many applicants, few approvals, and public expectations that licensees exceed baseline standards. Coinbase, Crypto.com, OKX, Upbit and Coinhako hold licenses or exemptions to serve Singapore, while Binance withdrew its application years ago and remains unavailable to Singapore retail.

MAS pairs licensing with hard consumer protection rules: crypto advertising to the general public is banned, retail customers face suitability assessments, leverage and credit-funded crypto purchases are prohibited for retail, and incentives like sign-up bonuses are restricted. The message is deliberate, that trading is legal but will not be made frictionless. Our Singapore rankings only include venues with proper MAS standing.

Deposits, withdrawals and local rails in Singapore

FAST and PayNow make SGD funding excellent on licensed venues: instant, free bank transfers from DBS, OCBC or UOB accounts that credit within seconds. This is one of the best fiat on-ramp experiences in any market we cover, provided you stay inside the licensed perimeter. Licensed platforms integrate PayNow directly, and deposits at 2 a.m. on Sunday work exactly like Tuesday morning.

Cards are the weak rail: several Singapore banks restrict credit card crypto purchases outright, consistent with the MAS position against leveraged or borrowed-money speculation, and debit card success rates vary by issuer. Withdrawals in SGD process same-day on licensed venues. Unlicensed offshore platforms cannot legally onboard Singapore retail, and local banks flag transfers to them.

Availability and restrictions in Singapore

Retail restrictions are the defining feature: no leverage, no crypto derivatives for retail on licensed venues, mandatory risk acknowledgments, and marketing silence in public spaces. Institutional and accredited investors operate under wider rules. Binance's absence from the retail market is the highest-profile gap. MAS has also driven Travel Rule compliance early, so wallet withdrawals involve counterparty questions.

Crypto taxes in Singapore

Singapore imposes no capital gains tax on individuals, so personal crypto investment profits are untaxed. Income tax applies only if trading constitutes a business or gains arise from employment or services paid in crypto. This combination of strict conduct regulation and zero CGT is Singapore's signature trade-off.
